Top Attractions: Mountains & Lakes
The Dolomites, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, are a paradise where you can spend hours and hours driving, discovering beautiful scenic roads, incredible passes of mountains, thousands of kilometers of hiking trails, enchanting emerald green alpine lakes, picturesque towns and villages.
They are wedged between the mountains of Austria and the plains of Italy and they lead to the Mediterranean, which means contrasting landscapes and climatic conditions. Try to imagine endless Mediterranean-style vineyards overlooked by the imposing peaks of majestic mountains. This area has long been disputed between the European powers, in fact for centuries it fell under the dominion of Austria before it was ceded after the First World War.
Precisely for this reason, the current Autonomous Region hosts three official languages: German, Italian and Ladin (the local indigenous language).
This earthly paradise looks decidedly more Austrian than Italian, but in our opinion it combines the best of the two amazing cultures.
